FAQ
What is a hackathon?
A hackathon is a sprint-like event where participants team up to create solutions to real-life challenges within an intense period of time. Using creativity, technology, and mentoring, the weekend results in prototypes, fresh new concepts, and innovative uses of technology.
Where will the hackathon take place?
The hackathon will be held at Riga Technical University, RTU Faculty of Architecture. Location address: Ķīpsalas iela 6, Kurzemes rajons, Riga, Latvia.
Will meals be provided during the hackathon?
Yes, meals will be provided throughout the hackathon. Dinner will be served on Friday and Saturday evenings, with breakfast and lunch available on both Saturday and Sunday.
Is there a place to sleep during the hackathon?
Yes, a sleeping zone will be provided for participants. Please bring your own sleeping mats, sleeping bags, or anything else you need to rest comfortably. There will be a shower available during the hackathon for hackathon participants.
What should participants bring to the event?
Participants should bring their own laptop and charger, as these will be essential for working on projects. Additionally, we recommend bringing a sleeping bag if you plan on staying overnight, and of course, don’t forget to bring a positive mood! 😊
Who can participate?
Participation is open to university students aged 18 and above from across the Baltic region, at all levels—Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctorate. We encourage students from all faculties to join, whether you are studying design, development, IT, marketing, or entrepreneurship. Diverse teams often collaborate effectively, leading to outstanding results. This is your chance to engage with AI, collaborate, and innovate with peers and experts.
Do I need to be able to code?
You can participate with any level of IT skills, even if you haven't written a single line of code before. Understanding the basics of IT is a plus, and you can even learn how to code with the help of Generative AI.
During this hackathon, can I work only on new ideas or on an existing product or solution?
It will be allowed to develop both new ideas and improve existing products and solutions. In the case of existing solutions, the work done during the hackathon will be especially evaluated. Teams with solutions already publicly or commercially available are not permitted to participate.
Should we work only on Partner challenges, or can we come up with our own idea?
We encourage you to work on Partner challenges, as you'll have access to specific data and expert support tailored to those challenges. However, you are also welcome to bring your own ideas or solutions. Just ensure that your proposals align with the main hackathon themes.
How big should the team be?
We find that a team of 3 to 5 members works best. It's large enough to have diverse skills, yet small enough to get to know your team members well in a short space of time. The minimal team size is 3 members.
What are the requirements for submitting ideas or forming teams for the hackathon?
To participate in the hackathon, submissions can be either ideas or established teams.
How can I find a team if I sign up for the hackathon alone or don't have a team already?
If you're signing up alone or don't already have a team, there's no need to worry. Even if you don't know anyone attending the hackathon, you'll have plenty of opportunities to connect with other participants. We will organize matchmaking and team formation events before the hackathon, which will be facilitated through our dedicated hackathon platform. This platform is designed to help you meet other attendees, share ideas, and form teams. It provides an environment for networking and collaboration, ensuring that everyone can find a group that matches their interests and skills.
Who retains the intellectual property rights for the solutions developed during the hackathon?
All intellectual property rights for the projects developed during the hackathon belong to the teams that created them. However, teams must respect existing intellectual property rights, such as data and information, while developing solutions.
Is participation free of charge?
Yes, participation in the hackathon is free of charge. Free transport will be organized for participants travelling from Estonia and Lithuania to the hackathon venue; however, please note that additional costs, such as extra travel and accommodation outside the hackathon location (sleeping zone), are not covered and must be borne by the participants.
